Why visit the Tulum archaeological site?

The Tulum archaeological site is a gem of the Yucatán Peninsula, combining history and natural beauty. Located just one hour south of Playa del Carmen, this emblematic place attracts thousands of visitors every year. Perched 14 metres above sea level, the main temple offers a striking panorama over the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Beyond its historical wealth, the site has become a highly sought after destination thanks to its popularity on social media and its unique atmosphere, in particular during the international electronic music festivals. Whether you are passionate about Maya culture or simply looking for an enchanting setting, Tulum promises an unforgettable experience.

Entrance costs to visit Tulum in 2025

Since January 2025, access to the Tulum ruins has been regulated by several separate tickets:

  • Parque Jaguar ticket: 295 pesos (roughly 15€).
  • Conservation wristband (CONAMP): 200 pesos (around 10€).
  • Tulum ruins ticket: 95 pesos (around 5€).

What does the Parque Jaguar offer?

The Parque Jaguar is far more than a simple gateway to the ruins. With your ticket, a free little electric bus takes you to the archaeological site in only eight minutes. On the way, you can make two major stops:

  1. A panoramic viewpoint: it offers a breathtaking view over the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding area. Do not hesitate to take a few souvenir photos there.
  2. An idyllic beach: reach a white sand beach lined by turquoise waters, perfect for a refreshing break.

For nature lovers, the park also offers walking trails and access to other beaches without going through the ruins. This place is ideal for those who want to explore the natural beauty of Tulum at their own pace.

Getting to Tulum: all the options

  • By bike: 10 to 20 minutes depending on your starting point.
