The Cozumel marine park protects vertiginous drop-offs swept by a current that turns every dive into a drift dive: you let yourself be carried along the wall, with giant sponges and turtles on the way. Palancar has appeared in every ranking of the world’s finest sites since Cousteau filmed it.

We meet at the Paseo Tours partner dive centre in Playa del Carmen to catch the 8am ferry.
- ≈ 8amThe crossing
Ferry to Cozumel, the island with twenty dive sites, including the famous Palancar.
- MorningThe vertical wall
First dive along the Cozumel drop-off, a drift dive rich in marine life, inside the island’s protected marine park.
- In betweenSnack
A drink and a snack on board before heading back out.
- NextThe reef
Second dive on a reef, still inside the marine park. Each dive lasts 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your air consumption.
- ≈ 5pmReturn
Ferry back and return to Playa del Carmen. The ferry ticket is bought on site at the counter, equipment rental is included.
